A delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) arrived in Libya on Friday on an inspection mission as the North African country prepares to host the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, PANA said.

Etihad Crystal Cargo, a division of Etihad Airways, has commenced scheduled services with its first Airbus A330-200 freighter aircraft, operating from Abu Dhabi to Tripoli in Libya.
The Airbus A330-200 freighter aircraft will allow Etihad to increase frequencies and build its presence in key markets worldwide, as well as enhance its worldwide charter services. Ahead of the 41st anniversary of the 1 September 1969 revolution, Libyan towns are getting a face lift with Libyans all geared up to mark the coming into power of Mouammar Kadhafi, PANA reported from the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

Libya to Process Gold and Diamonds

According to ANBA: Libya is going to sign an agreement with the World Council for the Gold and Precious Metals Industry, in India, in order to build two processing plants, one for gold, in Tripoli, and another for diamond cutting, in the Tajoura district, in the suburb of the capital. The information was supplied by African news agency Panapress. The announcement of the plants’ establishment was made by the secretary of the Libyan General Union of Gold and Precious Metals, Nourri Abu Chouheiwa. According to him, the Arab country is going to provide the facilities and equipment for the factory units, and India will supply the raw material. The gold plant is scheduled for inauguration in September, the same month in which Tripoli will inaugurate a new market for the product. Read More…

Tripoli-The fund raising campaign started in Libya for flood victims of Pakistan has resulted in raising Rs 22 million in just few days.This was stated by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Libya Jamil Ahmed Khan, while speaking at a fund-raising dinner held at Pakistan House in Tripoli last night.According to a message received here, the UN Chief in Libya would also participate in fund-raising efforts. Ambassador Jamil said the response of people had been overwhelming and Pakistan feels proud and encouraged that whole world stood shoulder to shoulder in this hour of trial. Read More…

Air France may restart Libya flights

Air France may reopen its route from Paris to Tripoli more than two decades after suspending it due to a 1989 attack on an airliner that killed 170 people, the carrier said on Monday.
“The Paris Charles de Gaulle to Tripoli route is among the destinations of potential interest to Air France,” a spokeswoman for the French airline told AFP, without indicating when a decision would be made.
The question of French flights to Libya has been sensitive since September 19, 1989, when a DC10 flown by French carrier UTA crashed into the desert in Niger, killing all 170 people on board, mostly Congolese, Chadian and French. Read More…

TRIPOLI,The son of Libya’s leader said Thursday that part of a deal to free a jailed Israeli photographer involved the release of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
Seif al-Islam Gadhafi told reporters that the Israeli-Tunisian dual national was not a spy and corroborated the man’s story that he was in the country to photograph heritage sites connected with Libya’s vanished Jewish community.
“This person was naive … he is not a spy and I made use of this issue in favor of our Palestinian brothers in Gaza,” he said. “Palestinian prisoners were released in exchange for releasing the Israeli.” Read More…

Deep water drilling operations in Libya by October

Tripoli-BP  PLC is expected to start its deep water drilling operations in Libya by October at the latest, Libya’s top oil official said Monday.”They are delaying because of technical problems, they want to be assured that all the instruments are working well and they don’t want a repeat of Macondo—it may take another two months at most,” Shokri Ghanem, Chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corp., or NOC, told Zawya Dow Jones by telephone.
BP’s plans to drill at least five wells in Libya’s Gulf of Sirte, at depths greater than the Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico, have some people worried about a similar ecological disaster. Read More…

Tripoli-The Kadhafi Development Foundation (FKD) and the UN Relief and Works Agency on Thursday signed three agreements in Tripoli on education, health and micro finance for Palestinians.
The agreements were signed by the chairman of the Kadhafi Development Foundation (FKD), Seif Ul-Islam Mouammar Kadhafi, and the Commissioner of UNRWA, Filippo Brandi.
The FKD chairman recalled that an agreement was signed on Monday between his institution and the UN agency focusing on the rebuilding of 1,250 houses for Palestinians in Gaza whose houses have been razed down in Israeli military operation. Read More…
